The South Australian Government is committed to increasing school-based apprenticeships, kickstarting careers for young people and building a pipeline of skills to equip the workforce for the jobs of the future.
Eligible employers will receive a bonus payment of $3,000 for the first 1,000 school enrolled students who successfully complete their South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) as well as their apprenticeship.
Eligibility
Subject to budget availability, the employer bonus payment is available to employers, including group training organisations (GTOs), employing a public, Catholic Education or Independent Schools student under a training contract commencing from 1 January 2020.
The training contract must be:
- approved as a school-based training contract in accordance with the South Australian Skills Act 2008 (SA). The qualification must be a minimum Certificate III level and be identified by the SACE Board’s VET Recognition Register as contributing to Stage 2 SACE.
South Australian Government agencies or GTOs employing school-enrolled students under training contract arrangements which are supported through the Skilling South Australia Public Sector Project are not eligible to receive the employer bonus payment.

The payment
The bonus payment will be paid to the employer in two instalments:
- $1500 once the apprentice or trainee has successfully completed their Stage 2 SACE and the first year of their training contract (students will need to complete Stage 2 SACE by 31 December 2022).
- $1500 on completion of the second year of the training contract, or successful completion of the training contract, whichever is sooner.
