Apprenticeships are flexible and can be changed to suit the needs of your business and your apprentice.
If you need to make a change, that’s ok, as long as everyone agrees.
To make a change to a traineeship or apprenticeship, you will need to submit an application to the South Australian Skills Commission.
What agreement looks like
If an employer starts an application, we’ll email the trainee or apprentice (and their parent or guardian if under 18) asking for their response. The nominated training organisation may also be asked to provide a response.
That’s why it’s important to discuss changes before submitting an application. It’s unlawful for any person to pressure or use unfair tactics to gain agreement to a change
Traineeship or apprenticeship management
Once an application is submitted, the South Australian Skills Commission will let you know of the outcome via email

Completing or terminating a training contract
Completing a traineeship or apprenticeship
You can apply to complete your traineeship or apprenticeship when:
- you and your trainee or apprentice agree competency has been achieved in the workplace, and
- the nominated training organisation certifies they have completed the qualification specified in the training contract.
Terminating a traineeship or apprenticeship
We understand that sometimes life events and circumstances can get in the way of completing training, and this may mean your apprentice is considering ending a training contract.
Before you do so, consider:
- what options are available to improve the trainee or apprentice’s situation, including deciding on a more flexible work schedule
- reach out for support, accessing success and wellbeing services
- contact the Apprentice Connect Australia Provider for support and pastoral care to resolve any issues that may arise throughout training
- contact the South Australian Skills Commission to see what options are available on 1800 673 097.
If you still need to terminate the contract, you can apply via mySkillsSA.
